Difference between a customer and a contact
At first, the difference between a customer and a contact can seem unclear. In Hubleto CRM, they represent two different types of records.
Key distinction
Customer
A customer is an entity you cooperate with. It can be:
- an individual person, or
- a company/organization.
Contact
A contact is a record of a specific person (for example, an employee, manager, or assistant) who is linked to a customer.
How to think about it in practice
In many cases, a contact is related to a customer, but these lists are not the same:
- One customer can have multiple contacts.
- Some contacts may not be active customers yet (for example, people you communicated with during early discussions).
- Your contacts list is usually broader than your customers list because it stores all relevant people you have interacted with.
Summary
| Record type | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Customer | A person or company your business cooperates with. |
| Contact | A specific individual linked to a customer or business communication. |
